Halloween at Home, A Fun Guide to Staying Inside!

October 31, 2019

The local fires have really affected the air quality in So. Cal. We are hoping those families are safe and secure! If you still have the Halloween spirit but decide not to go out tonight, who says you need to go out to have fun?! Fun is what you make it and we have some awesome ideas for having Halloween indoors and maybe create a new family tradition!

1) Call a couple friends and have your own party! Call in the reserves. We are talking potluck ASAP, board game from target maybe? Throw in musical chairs, a pack of balloons and a bucket of candy. Friends make everything fun!

2) Movie night anyone? I'm not going to lie, I love this one any night! It's actually pretty easy to make fresh popcorn if you have a pot. (Our favorite topping is melted butter, cinnamon and sugar.) Get a cozy blanket and check out a family friendly spooky movie. Here's our short list:

Goosebumps (2015)Paranorman (2012), Hotel Transylvania (2012), Frankenweenie (2012), Monster House (2006), Corpse Bride (2005), Halloweentown (2004), The Addams Family (1991), Beetlejuice (1988), Ghostbusters (1988), It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown (1966).

3) Have an indoor camping adventure. Let's use those glow sticks! Build a fort with blankets and pillows, invite some stuffed animals to join you and maybe make a couple s'mores. If you can find a fireplace channel on TV you'll have everything you need minus the mosquitoes!

4) Halloween bake off, spooky treat edition!  Untitled design-6.pngYou can really do anything will a roll of crescent dough this days. Here are some more spooky recipes to get you started.

5) Spooky science experiment! Hobby lobby and Michael's have great science experiment boxes or try a homemade one. We haven't tried this one yet but please send us pics if you do! Take 5 oz of Green Mountain Dew, add 1/8 tsp of baking soda and 3 tsps of hydrogen peroxide, shake well and turn off the lights and watch it glow!

6) Have a scavenger hunt! First one to the find the witches broom wins!

7) Reschedule Halloween! I've ton this for many a holiday at this point. Valentines, Mother's Day, etc...it's just too busy for me. There are still plenty of fall activities, pumpkin patches (check our guides) and things to do this weekend. There's no pressure to celebrate today. Make Halloween your families holiday and celebrate however you'd like! Be safe and have a great holiday season!
