My 6-year-old is a "new reader" but was ready for the level of this game and my 4-year-old struggles to keep up with the brothers so the Reading Game met it's match with my bright boys. They loved it! Being able to pick the "penguin" series was my 4-year-olds favorite part.
The game starts with a simple fast action-memory card game that teaches five words at a time. These five words are then reinforced using picture flashcards with simple phrases including capitalization and punctuation. The game also includes content rich storybooks which feature the 30 words learned through flashcard game play. After repeated play, children will be able to read the entire storybook unassisted.
The idea is that once the six decks of cards and the six storybooks have been completed, the child will have a reading vocabulary of 180 words, many of them Dolch and High Frequency words. I can't wait to keep playing to see how much my littlest guy picks up.
This award winning game was honored with the Tillywig Brain Child of the Year Award as well as Dr. Toy's Best Picks Children’s Products, to name a few.
It can be purchased on Amazon and at many retailers, including Toys R Us.
Disclaimer: I was provided a copy of the game to check it out for myself but the opinions expressed in this review are my own.
